Dear Parent or Guardian:
Your high school student has demonstrated potential for success in Career and Technical Education and is now eligible for an opportunity to earn adult postsecondary credit through Career Dual Enrollment (CDE). Career Dual Enrollment means that in addition to receiving regular high school credit, students also earn postsecondary credit at an adult technical college in Hillsborough County (Brewster, Erwin, or Aparicio-Levy) while remaining on their high school campus.
Here are just some of the benefits of Career Dual Enrollment:
- There is no cost to high school students, as tuition, registration and instructional materials are provided.
- Students receive credit towards high school graduation and a postsecondary Career Certificate program.
- If a student enrolls in a Hillsborough Technical College after high school graduation, the Career Dual Enrollment credit will significantly reduce the cost and training time.
- Students who complete the entire course* will receive .08 weighted points to their semester grade.
After high school graduation, students who select to continue their program at a technical college in Florida may utilize:
- The Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship for students who meet eligibility requirements.
- Federal financial aid, which is available at the above mentioned adult technical colleges.
* Parent/Guardian: Please note that your student must complete the entire course in the same school year. Students who withdraw from their CDE course at any point during the school year will not receive dual enrollment credit for their course.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call Melissa Brady, CTE Program Advisor, at (813) 231-1807.
Sincerely,
Christopher Jargo
Director, Career and Technical Education
